"Sandhill Cranes and Wheat Field"

When I love photography

All the time, but when I see something like this, it really gets me in the gut.  I'd never seen this many cranes in one place before.  Usually I see one or two together.  The sky was such a beautiful color.  This was at the end of the summer, when most of the wheat fields in Montana have been cut and it's very dry and hot.  It's miserable weather, but it creates wonderful color combinations in the landscape and sky.

"Faded Gray"

Weathered character.

The little town of Wilsal, Montana is not far from where I grew up so I've driven by this barn several times in my life.  Finally, I was going through Wilsal and saw it again in the warm glow of the setting summer sun and stopped to take a photograph.  The sky was such a pretty blue and the grass was so green I though that I'd probably never come by again when it was this rich in color.

"Far Reaching"

I already miss the summer.

The huge rolling clouds are my favorite part of summer in Montana.  In the winter, there are no defined clouds like these.  Mostly, the entire sky is gray in the winter.  Boring.  It's the definition in the clouds that makes them beautiful.

"Noodles and Chop Suey"

Sightseeing in Butte, America

I just love these buildings.  How much more character and heritage can one set of buildings hold?  They are located just below the historic "downtown" district of Butte, which is chock full of architecture that will make you drool.  Just down the street from these buildings is the "red light" district of Butte, where one of the longest operating brothels in America is located.  It's not operating now, but made it into the late seventies before it closed.  Butte has tons of character, that's for sure, but it may be a little rough around the edges for some.  It's one of my favorite towns, both for the conversation and the photo ops.
